Checking BSNL Broadband Usage (via SMS and Web)

Posted by Goutam Mandal on August 3, 2010

Many of us have broadband plans with limited free usage per month which makes it mandatory for us to check our usage regularly or else we may exceed our free usage limit and end up with huge bill at the end of the month. Earlier usage could be checked at bbservice.bsnl.in and www.dataone.in. But now BSNL has undergone some reforms and have changed the things the way it used to work earlier. Now your entire landline can be managed online.

So here are two methods for checking your Broadband Usage. But keep in mind that these are not real time data as it takes around 12-48 hours for BSNL servers to update your usage statistics.

1. Through Mobile by SMS

a) From BSNL Mobile

To register SMS REG <landline number with STD Code> to 52295 (toll free)
eg – REG 0674239xxx5
To check your usage SMS BBU <landline number with STD Code> to 52295 (toll free)
eg – BBU 0674239xxx5

b) From Non-BSNL Mobile

To register SMS REG <landline number with STD Code> to 9448077777 (SMS charges apply)
eg – REG 0674239xxx5
To check your usage SMS BBU <landline number with STD Code> to 9448077777  (SMS charges apply)
eg – BBU 0674239xxx5

2. Through BSNL website

BSNL has launched its selfcare website where you can manage your entire landline including changing your billing address, submitting/tracking complaints/order requests, checking bills, reviewing Local Call Record etc. apart from checking your Broadband Usage Details. Here you can also see the MAC ID of the device from which the connection was established. So there is no chance of someone hooking up wire to your telephone line and using your broadband without your notice (in case they know your user id and password).

Here are the sites for customers belonging to different regions -

North Users – selfcare.ndc.bsnl.co.in
South Users – selfcare.sdc.bsnl.co.in
East Users  – selfcare.edc.bsnl.co.in
West Users – selfcare.wdc.bsnl.co.in

It is advised to access these sites using Internet Explorer 6 or above as they are optimised for IE. I can’t even login to selfcare.edc.bsnl.co.in from Mozilla Firefox :(

If you are visiting the site for the first time then register yourself by clicking on New User Registration (or similar option). In the next page you will need to provide your telephone details including your Cutomer Number/Unique ID which can be easliy found on any of your old telephone bills. In case you haven’t received any bill yet, you can get this Cutomer Number/Unique ID from 1500 (toll free). Select a User ID and Password of your choice for your future logins.

Next, whenever you want to check your usage simply login with the User ID / Password chosen by you and navigate to checking your Unbilled Broadband Usage.

Here, I have posted some screenshots from selfcare.edc.bsnl.co.in. Click on them to enlarge.

sir, iam not able to see my bill of aug & sept 2010. no monthwise exploration possible.pl.guide

    • Go to the respective selfcare site according to your circle. Then navigate to Services –> Check My Bills –> Click on the Billing Account No. –> Click on the Bill No. Here only the Bill No. is mentioned and the Billing month is not specified directly. You have to know the month from the Start Date – End Date or Invoice Generation Date.

If you have done all this and still not getting the required result, then there may be some temporary error with BSNL (I found the selfcare site down lot many times). If the problem persists, try taking help by dialling 1500 (toll free).
